Interactive 3D Tour

A street for
people first.

Hargreaves Mall, Bendigo, Victoria

After 44 years, the Mall is open to vehicles again… This 3D tour presents the recent changes & upgrades, whilst allowing you to freely explore the Mall in 3D space at your own leisure.

For 44 years, Hargreaves Street was closed to cars.

Now it's a shared street — people, bikes, e-scooters and cars in one space, at walking-to-jogging pace.

Scroll down to start the tour.

01 · The rules of the road

One way for cars. Both ways for bikes. People first, always.

  • Cars, vans and e-scooters travel one way — in from Mitchell Street, out onto Williamson Street.
  • Bikes can ride both ways — against the traffic from the Williamson Street end.
  • People on foot always have right of way, anywhere in the Mall, and can cross at any point.
  • Everyone keeps to 10 km/h — jogging pace.

02 · Slow by design

A winding path, and short stays close to the door.

  • Staggered bollards and planter boxes keep drivers slow. The arrows on the road move at exactly 10 km/h.
  • 11 two-hour bays — paid, free on weekends (the time limits still apply).
  • 1 accessible, 1 ten-minute and 1 loading bay.
  • Quick trips are easy again — the pharmacy, click-and-collect, a drop-off at the door.

03 · Still a place to stay

The trees, the events and the play space stay.

  • The trees were kept; the street furniture and stage can move.
  • Events and the Moonlight Market carry on.
  • Fun Loong Play Space is now fenced.
  • One of 26 actions in the City Centre Action Plan 2026–2029 — reviewed after twelve months, in September 2027.

Loading the street

The 3-D walk needs a browser with WebGPU or WebGL2. Everything else on this page still works.

How it works

Six things to know.

One way

In from Mitchell Street, out onto Williamson Street.

10

10 km/h

Jogging pace — for cars, bikes and e-scooters alike.

People first

Pedestrians always have right of way, and can cross anywhere, from either side.

Bikes both ways

Cyclists may ride against the traffic from the Williamson Street end. E-scooters: one way only.

P

Parking

11 two-hour bays (paid; free on weekends, limits apply), plus 1 accessible, 1 ten-minute and 1 loading bay.

Still a place to stay

The trees, the events and the Moonlight Market stay. Fun Loong Play Space is fenced.

Why open the Mall?

More people. More reasons to come in. More life in the heart of the city.

Easy quick trips

The pharmacy, a click-and-collect, dropping someone at the door — short stays are simple again.

New business

Better access and passing trade help attract new shops, food and experiences to empty shopfronts.

A bigger plan

Reopening the road is one of 26 actions in the City Centre Action Plan 2026–2029 — not a fix on its own.

Questions we hear

The short answers.

Is it safe to walk in the street?

Yes. The Mall is a shared zone: pedestrians always have right of way, anywhere in it, and every vehicle is limited to 10 km/h. Bollards and planter boxes create a winding path that keeps drivers slow.

Where do cars come in and go out?

One way only — in from Mitchell Street, out onto Williamson Street at the roundabout.

Can I still cross wherever I like?

Yes. You can cross the road at any point, from either side of the Mall. Vehicles give way to you.

Can I ride my bike through?

Yes, both ways. Cyclists can ride against the traffic when they enter from the Williamson Street end. Keep to 10 km/h and give way to people on foot.

What about e-scooters?

E-scooters travel one way only, like every other vehicle, and must not exceed 10 km/h.

Where can I park?

There are 11 standard bays with two-hour timed paid parking (free on weekends, but the time limits still apply), one accessible paid bay, one ten-minute bay and one loading bay.

Is Fun Loong Play Space still there?

Yes — the play space stays, and it's now secured with fencing.

Will events and the Moonlight Market still happen?

Yes. Events and the Moonlight Market continue, and the street furniture and stage can be moved to suit them.

Is this permanent?

It will be reviewed after twelve months, in September 2027. What people say about how it's working will count.

Have your say

How is the new Hargreaves Street working for you?

I'm usually in the Mall…

A demonstration form — in the live version this would go straight to the Council.

We hope you enjoy this interactive spatial experience and decide to perhaps take a visit to this unique and diverse shopping precinct.
